THE CUTTING EDGE
Sixth and last article in the series)
Perhaps some will feel that we have been unnecessarily repetitive in presenting our case in these articles, but the repetition was intentional in an attempt to drive home the point that God’s Sovereignty is being ignored. According to clear and unambiguous Bible teaching, God Himself chose whom He would save and predestinated them (the elect) to eternal life. This was a complete and finished fact prior to creation and all of the good intentions by those determined to aid in the process will not change the total number of the redeemed.
We strongly contend that the proliferation of denominations and doctrinal viewpoints now confronting and confusing many of God’s saints is directly attributable to the “new measures for a new theology” and “revival upon demand” defection of Charles Grandison Finney in the mid-1800’s. Once he shifted the emphasis from God’s choice to man’s choice, the door to abuse was thrown wide open and Satan has used it to maximum advantage. Everybody and their neighbor now has an opinion on what is necessary for one to do in order to obtain salvation and the list is getting longer by the day. And it appears that the majority of preachers—those that are supposed to be at least semi-expert in the Scriptures—cannot “see the forest for the trees” in the matter. Evangelism has degenerated to the level of a contest with pastors and Churches vying with each other over which bus has the right to pick up which kids! Evangelists advertise their services in the various Christian periodicals and almost invariably include the “decision” numbers from their last meeting—apparently to show that they get results when they preach. Missionaries feel pressed to include numbers of converts in their monthly prayer letters because those contributing to their support expect results. And we can only consider these things and lament the fact that they are all the product of human nature.
As a minister of the Gospel, I have been on both sides of the fence. For years I too believed and taught the currently popular concept that God loves everyone equally and Jesus Christ died for the sin of the entire world. And since their sin has been paid for, all they have to do for salvation is repent, believe, and accept Christ as personal Lord and Savior. But when I began to really study theology for myself rather than blindly swallowing what I had been taught, I found that this whole position is contrived and unsupportable! The Book of Proverbs exhorts us over and over again to “get wisdom,” which is nothing but common sense under a different name, and it (common sense) dictates that spiritually dead individuals cannot possibly exercise their “free will” and accept Christ—they are dead! If and until God grants them spiritual life (“quickens” them), they will remain spiritually dead as a doorknob and cannot possibly believe or accept Christ. They are slaves of Satan and, left to themselves, will not seek after God (Eph.2:1-2 and Romans 3:11). We have pounded on this theme over and over in the previous articles and hopefully some of you will wake up to reality. It really all boils down to a fairly simple concept: God is the Author of salvation and administers it entirely by Himself. His elect sheep are born into this world spiritually dead just like everyone else, but when He gets ready to call them in He gives them spiritual life which enables them to believe—and they, without fail, do so as a subsequent action. They are saved because they are sheep and not sheep because they are saved. Not one of them will be lost and those that attempt to teach souls will be lost and go to hell as the result of a failure of Christians’ to witness are dead wrong! That teaching, as well as several others related to the subject of salvation, is the product of creative exegesis and does not square with the whole of Scripture. Preachers have “put a guilt trip on believers” in an effort to exhort them to witness and in doing so completely disregarded the fact that the Holy Spirit does the witnessing! “….how shall they hear without a preacher and how shall they preach except they be sent?…” (Romans 10:14b-15a). Each and every genuine believer is literally indwelled by the Holy Spirit of God and, as the believer learns to yield himself by denying and “crucifying” his flesh, the Holy Spirit fills him for service. Thus the influence of the Holy Spirit working through the daily life of the yielded believer is the witness for Jesus Christ—not some largely mechanical effort generated by the latest evangelistic guru to write a book or present a seminar on soul-winning—which brings us back to the basic reason for this series.
How do we cope with pastors “infected” with the New Evangelical virus? Are we to sit still and wait stoically while our pulpits become platforms for psychological plans and programs designed to make us feel good about ourselves? Are we to passively stand by and watch their good intentions shift the emphasis from growing godly Christians to that of competing for numbers—and the tares that inevitably follow? Let me answer by posing another question. Have you ever noticed that the overwhelming bulk of the New Testament is devoted to what I call the “care and feeding of the local saint?” And, by comparison, very little is devoted to evangelism. Why do you suppose this is the case? Why did the Holy Spirit not see fit for the apostle Paul to expound at length on the fine art of soul winning and the various techniques for eliciting decisions that are so popular in the seminars of today? Could it be that one is actually more important than the other? Gasp! Surely you jest! No, I have never been more serious in my life. But please do not misunderstand me—witnessing and pointing others to Jesus Christ is vitally important, but so is growing in grace and knowledge of Him! Many believers are being starved to death by preachers trying to feed them a steady diet of salvation sermons and exhortations to evangelism, when what they desperately need is the pure milk of “all the counsel of God” as the apostle Paul put it in Acts 20:27. And some of these same believers are often beleaguered by the devil and oppressed mentally and spiritually, but the preacher tries to respond with psychology rather than getting to the spiritual root of the problem through the Word of God, working in concert with the Holy Spirit of God. The average preacher today knows about as much about spiritual warfare as the average hog knows about a side-saddle and trying to resort to psychology is playing right into the hands of the very one that revealed the techniques to sinful men! Allowing a “mental health care professional” to tamper with your subconscious via hypnosis and subliminal suggestion is an open invitation to demonic oppression. And allowing a preacher to try to use elements of the same pseudo-science on you from the pulpit or in counseling is almost as bad. Prayer and reliance upon God to remedy problems of a spiritual nature is the answer, not the misguided efforts of a man failing to recognize and stay within his area of authority.
Have we become so blind that we cannot perceive the slow and extremely subtle shift that has sidetracked so many Churches and preachers? Ice cream and candy has replaced a properly balanced diet and spiritual children—many of them not genuine to begin with—just naturally opt for the sweets and things go downhill from there. Perhaps you are not aware of it, but by way of illustration we want to point out that in conventional warfare the infliction of survivable casualties is often more desirable from a strategic point of view than deaths. Why? Because each wounded individual occupies several other troops in tending to them and ties up available manpower, thereby weakening the overall effort of the enemy. Satan is employing the very same tactics in our Churches. By spreading numbers of tares among the wheat he ties up pastors with unending counseling problems, causes difficulties in business meetings settling petty issues, makes a consistent program of Bible study well nigh impossible because spiritually dead people cannot and do not appreciate that which is spiritually discerned. And…..well, you know what I am trying to say.
If you recognize the symptoms as being apparent in your own Church and pastor—that the plans and programs of the Church are like the tail wagging the dog—what can you, or should you, do about it? The first thing you should do is talk about your concerns with your pastor, one on one privately. If this meeting is unsatisfactory, go back with two or more members of like mind and discuss it again. If that fails, and you believe that a significant number of the membership are with you, bringing it before the assembled Church is an option. These steps fulfill the Lord’s own prescribed method of resolving difficulties among the brethren as found in Matthew 18:15-17. But if you decide that bringing it before the Church is not the thing to do—for whatever reason—my suggestion to you is that the situation is probably too far gone and you would be better off seeking another place to worship. Even if a handful of believers are forced by such circumstances to meet in someone’s home, the Lord has promised to be in the midst of that gathering (Matthew 18:20). Doctrinal purity and practice are much more to be desired than unity at the expense of them.
This series of articles is in response to those individuals who have contacted us with concerns and prayer requests about their own Churches. We are convinced that because of these concerns and our own experience over the past few years, we are in the midst of the “falling away”—the apostasy prior to the revelation of antichrist—and to walk correctly we must come out from among them and be separate. No doubt we will hear from many pastors because of this advice, but so be it. And our reply to them is very simple: If you doubt the truth of our allegations, just cut out the rotten contemporary music/worship services, quit trying to use psychology from the pulpit, really bear down on the congregation with the preaching of the Word of God, insist upon solid and consistent Bible study, and watch the numbers drop like a rock!
You cannot run God’s people off with such things, but the devil’s disciples will not stand for it.
“Am I therefore become your enemy because I tell you the truth?” (Galatians 4:16, KJV).
Are you spiritually ready? Is your family? Are you adequately protecting your loved ones? This is the reason for this ministry, to enable you to first understand the peril facing you, and then help you develop strategies to warn and protect your loved ones. Once you have been thoroughly trained, you can also use your knowledge as a means to open the door of discussion with an unsaved person. I have been able to use it many times, and have seen people come to Jesus Christ as a result. These perilous times are also a time when we can reach many souls for Jesus Christ, making an eternal difference.
If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, but have been very lukewarm in your spiritual walk with Him, you need to immediately ask Him for forgiveness and for renewal. He will instantly forgive you, and fill your heart with the joy of the Holy Spirit. Then, you need to begin a daily walk of prayer and personal Bible Study.
If you have never accepted Jesus Christ as Savior, but have come to realize His reality and the approaching End of the Age, and want to accept His FREE Gift of Eternal Life, you can also do so now, in the privacy of your home. Once you accept Him as Savior, you are spiritually Born Again, and are as assured of Heaven as if you were already there. Then, you can rest assured that the Kingdom of Antichrist will not touch you spiritually.
If you would like to become Born Again, turn to our Salvation Page now.
We hope you have been blessed by this ministry, which seeks to educate and warn people, so that they can see the coming New World Order -- Kingdom of Antichrist -- in their daily news.
