I. Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State for President Obama? Who would have 'thunk-it"?
NEWS BRIEF: "Clinton Said to Be Frontrunner for Secretary of State", Bloomberg Financial News, November 17, 2008
"New York Senator Hillary Clinton appears to be President-elect Barack Obama's leading choice for secretary of state ... Clinton, who lost out to Obama for the Democratic nomination, flew to Chicago on Nov. 13, where the two met. The meeting probably wouldn't have taken place if Obama didn't intend to offer Clinton the position, nor would she have traveled to Chicago if she weren't inclined to accept ...."
We should not be too surprised that Hillary is being considered for the position of Secretary of State, for a couple reasons:
1) President-elect Obama has drawn a number of officials for his White House team from the Bill Clinton team;
"Obama has surrounded himself with about a half dozen confidantes who are an integral part of the transition decision making and who have refused to discuss internal matters publicly. The group includes Vice President-elect Joe Biden, incoming Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, the campaign's chief strategist David Axelrod, and transition leaders John Podesta, Pete Rouse and Valerie Jarrett. Jarrett, 52, was appointed as a senior White House adviser."
2) Cutting Edge expects that Obama's first term will be equivalent to a Bill Clinton third term as far as policies are concerned;
Since this is probably going to be the case, we need to remind ourselves what the Bill and Hillary Clinton years were like (1992-2000). 3) When Hillary and Barack met with the Bilderberg group just before the Democrat nomination, the word came out that Obama was planned to be the next President, but that Hillary would be compensated by getting a major post within the 44th Cabinet. Secretary of State most definitely would be that major post.
Obama is said to be planning a very diverse Cabinet -- including Republicans.
"Obama ... said during his campaign that he would fashion a Cabinet that included Democrats, independents and Republicans. He now appears to be modeling his Cabinet in the style of Abraham Lincoln ..."
What this sentence means is that Obama is following the President Lincoln mold of bringing in Cabinet officials who are strong-willed and who are not afraid to voice their own opinions. In other words, Obama is bringing in people who will not be meek and mild "yes men"!
Lincoln surprised some observers with his appointments.
"Abraham Lincoln meant it when he took office in 1861 with pro-slavery secessionist southern states about to launch the American Civil War. He appointed his bitter adversaries to crucial posts, choosing as war secretary a man who had called him a 'long-armed ape' who 'does not know anything and can do you no good'."

As we have pointed out on a number of occasions, McCain is a very Liberal Republican on most issues. Genuine Conservatives are going to cry out in pain when McCain repeatedly cooperates with President Obama on a number of key issues, including Global Warming and Obama's call for a compulsory National Service program modeled after Hitler's successful program.

The dirty little secret is that President Bush's invasion and occupation of Iraq these past five years is legally sanctioned by a United Nations mandate. Without this international mandate, America's occupation of Iraq would be without legal foundation - it would be illegal. Since the current U.N. mandate expires in December, it was imperative that President Bush get an agreement before December. The Shi'ite government of Iraq -- backed solidly by Iran -- knew that it had Bush over the proverbial barrel, and keep adding demands, complaining about some details, and watching Bush squirm under the prospect that its war might be rejected by the very government it had put into power.
Had Bush not gotten this agreement, President-elect Obama would have faced a severe crisis from the first moment of his Presidency. Instead of having the luxury of working toward a 2011 withdrawal date, he would have been forced to withdraw American forces hastily as quickly as he possibly could. Therefore, Iraq and Iran both showed diplomatic compassion upon President-elect Obama by providing this fig leaf of respectability. Now, American forces can "declare victory and leave" in 2011.
