He knew that Colorado Governor, John Hickenlooper (D), had signed a strict gun control law 2 1/2 years earlier that removed guns from the hands of law-abiding citizens! Once again, we are left with the horrific reality that average citizens who are law-abiding cannot defend themselves against a crazy criminal. What was that bumper sticker again" "When citizens are not allowed to have guns, only criminals will have guns"! What finally stopped this gunman? Police officers arriving on the scene, lots of them, firing lots of bullets. NEWS BRIEF: "Gun Control Laws Fail to Stop Colorado Springs Halloween Gunman", Breitbart News, November 2, 2015 "Police had been called and arrived to confront the gunman just after he had shot the two individuals near El Paso Street. Once confronted, the man began to fire at police and was killed." An eyewitness on a video accompanying this article stated that the police shot the gunman about 20 times. Therefore, once again, a criminal on a rampage with a gun is finally stopped in a barrage of bullets from police officers. But, the police did not arrive in time to prevents multiple deaths. However, if Colorado had allowed citizens the legal ability to carry guns, a law-abiding citizen walking his dog on the street might have been able to kill the gunman before he could kill three innocent people. At the very least, the gunman would not have felt that he could move slowly, taking his time surveying the street and selecting his victims. Why did formerly Conservative Colorado sign legislation severely restricting citizens rights to own and to carry guns? "These multiple attacks in Colorado Springs occurred approximately two and a half years after Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper (D) signed multiple gun controls into law in reaction to the July 2012 Aurora theater attack and the December 2012 attack on Sandy Hook Elementary. Among the laws signed were: * "universal background checks" * "a ban on 'high capacity' ammunition magazines" * " new rules on how long a gun can be out of the owner’s possession before another background check is required for him or her to get it back" Obviously, these laws did not dissuade this crazed gunman from taking his guns -- possibly illegal guns -- on to a quiet Colorado Springs street on a lazy Saturday morning and murder three people. Listen to the unbelievably naive comment which one Colorado lawmaker spoke as she looked on when the governor signed this legislation into law. "Hickenlooper signed the gun controls against the advice of numerous sheriffs in his state and as he did, Politico reported that Democratic Rep. Rhonda Fields looked on and said, 'I am happy the governor is signing common-sense legislation that reduces gun violence in our communities by keeping guns out of the hands of criminals, domestic violence offenders and the seriously mentally ill'.” Once again, the idiocy of removing guns from the hands of law-abiding citizens does NOT prevent a lone gunman from taking his illegal guns and murdering people at will -- until heavily armed police and/or SWAT teams take him down in a hail of gunfire. What this type of legislation does is create a "Gun Free Zone", which assures a gunman that he will not face immediate return fire from a law-abiding citizen. Chicago, Illinois, is one of the most "Gun Free Zones" in America. What are the recent statistics from that "Windy City"? NEWS BRIEF: "5 shot since Wednesday afternoon", ABC News, October 29, 2015 "Five people, including three teens in Bronzeville, have been injured in shootings since Wednesday afternoon, police said." How many people were killed in Chicago in September? NEWS BRIEF: "Chicago Under The Gun: The deadliest September", Chicago Tribune, November 2, 2015 "In the waning days of the month, Chicago had already recorded 60 homicides, the city's deadliest September since 2002, according to a Tribune analysis. In fact, September has had more homicides than any other month this year, even more than the traditionally violent summer months." Why doesn't Mass Media use this kind of terrible gun tragedy in Chicago as a reason that private citizens can own guns? Government officials are using horrific gun murders like this one to push this country to an outright ban upon all privately owned guns. In history, no dictatorship has come to power, or has remained in power, if the citizens own and carry their own guns.
