Just Because Something Is Fervently Believed Does Not
Necessarily Mean It Is Supported By The Word Of God

This “quote” is cited so often that it has literally become part of American political lore. But some who have searched Burke’s writings for that precise statement say it is nowhere to be found. And the consensus among them appears to be that it is actually the product of a conflation of thoughts—molding and adapting itself into something so appealing to our national psyche, it continues to be repeated!
“We the people” have had it drummed into our heads that the overthrow of tyranny—by violence if necessary—is our God-given responsibility. Because if we fail to exercise due diligence, some oppressive form of government will inevitably be the result. And history is replete with instances demonstrating the principle that wicked men are always lurking in the shadows to usurp power if given the opportunity.
However, does this totally understandable way of thinking meet the standards of God’s Word? When we do a thorough analysis of the subject, we will find that believers are to refrain from “resisting” tyrannical oppression by government because Romans 13:1-7 says so! (And if your are tempted to react in anger to this principle—please be advised that my sinful flesh hates to “turn the other cheek” just as much as yours does).
“Let every person be loyally subject to the
governing (civil) authorities. For there is no authority except from God [by
His permission, His sanction], and those that exist do so by God’s appointment.
2 Therefore he who resists and sets himself up against the
authorities resists what God has appointed and arranged [in divine
order]. And those who resist will bring down judgment upon themselves
[receiving the penalty due them]. 3 For
civil authorities are not a terror to [people of] good conduct, but to [those
of] bad behavior. Would you have no dread of him who is in authority? Then do
what is right and you will receive his approval and commendation. 4
For he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, [you should
dread him and] be afraid, for he does not bear and wear the sword for
nothing. He is God’s servant to execute His wrath (punishment, vengeance) on
the wrongdoer. 5 Therefore one must be subject, not only to avoid
God’s wrath and escape punishment, but also as a matter of principle and
for the sake of conscience. 6 For this same reason you pay taxes,
for [the civil authorities] are official servants under God, devoting
themselves to attending to this very service. 7 Render to all men
their dues. [Pay] taxes to whom taxes are due, revenue to whom revenue is due,
respect to whom respect is due, and honor to whom honor is due” Romans 13:1-7 (Amplified Bible, emphasis
mine).
The key to understanding what God prohibits in this passage is found in the Greek word antitasso, translated as “resists.” W.E. Vine’s Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words says of this particular word that it was “…originally a military term, to range in battle against…” Thus the thrust of the Apostle Paul’s statement is that Christians must not rebel against their government by taking up arms and fighting to overthrow it.
Paul also had this to say in the Book of Second Corinthians,
verse four:
“For the weapons of our warfare are not
physical [weapons of flesh and blood], but they are mighty before God for the overthrow and
destruction of strongholds.” (Emphasis
mine).
The two “weapons” Christians must use in such cases are (1) fervent prayer and (2) preaching from pulpits all across the land that is intended to arrest the attention of those who would try to oppress us. Our God is absolutely sovereign in the affairs of men and infinitely greater than the evil entity that is behind all oppressive governments. And while using the defensive strategies available to us we must recognize that it may be God’s will that we suffer and be overcome by our oppressors! Victory for genuine believers is guaranteed in the hereafter—not in the here and now.
There is a knee-jerk attitude we exhibit that is similar to
the psychological experiment of “Pavlov’s dogs.” A conditioned reflex has been
instilled within us by historic-revisionist teaching through our
Freemason-promoted compulsory public school systems! (e.g. the ridiculous tales
concerning George Washington and other heroes of the American Revolution

). Prior to the implementation of compulsory public education in the 1800’s
nearly all educational institutions were church related and thus subjects were
taught from a biblical perspective. But once schools came under the auspices of
centralized public boards, the curriculum was slowly changed from having a
Christian emphasis to that of a purely secular nature. And during that
process civics classes began to emphasize the unscriptural philosophy proclaimed by our nation’s “Declaration of
For instance, the phrase “We hold these truths to be self-evident; that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness…”
Right off the bat the truths are said to be “self-evident,” because no defining authority could be cited. The Bible does not teach such concepts, nor had any nation in the world ever experienced such freedoms prior to that time in history! And Thomas Jefferson admitted as much when he made the following statement:
“How little do my countrymen know what precious blessedness they are in possession of, and which no other people on earth enjoy.” (Emphasis mine).
So all that follows—men being created equal, liberty, happiness, etc.—were lofty ideals that sprang from hearts yearning for such things to be valid. But did our Creator actually endow all men everywhere with them? The answer is that He did not! Those who drafted the “Declaration of Independence” were Gnostic deists (Rosicrucians and/or Freemasons) who fervently believed in “the universal fatherhood of God and brotherhood of man”—a concept completely at odds with the Bible and the core belief upon which such idealistic sentiments were based.
The stark reality of this sinful world is that the only way anyone can have God as their heavenly father and actually become spiritual brothers or sisters with others is through a new birth in Jesus Christ.
“Jesus said to him, I am the Way and the Truth
and the Life; no one comes to the Father except by (through) Me” John 14:6 (Amplified Bible).
Yet there is a sense in which in which God does create all men as equals: One hundred percent are born into this world spiritually dead and equally alienated from Him! Adam’s disobedience allowed the concept of sin to enter this material universe and his offspring were condemned to an eternity separated from God. But in a stupendous and mind numbing act of grace on His part, some are spared from that fate when they receive Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. They literally become part of God’s family through adoption and due to their exaltation in Christ; none remain equal in His sight with the lost and dying masses from which they were extracted.
Regarding the phrase “all men are created equal,” some wag has said, “Yeah, but some are more equal than others!” And that wry observation is often demonstrated when a citizen’s supposed equality under the law winds up being dependent upon his ability to pay for the best legal representation. Plus when you think about it, even reward in heaven is going to vary according to the believer’s degree of faithful service (1 Cor. 3:11-15)—so the concept of equality among men is only a fantasy that appeals to the natural mind.
What about the “unalienable rights” with which we are supposedly endowed by our Creator? The word “unalienable” means something that cannot be taken from an individual or given by him to another. So can anyone cite “chapter and verse” where God has given those specific rights to anyone, much less the whole of mankind? My friend, God does not even promise “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” to His born-again, blood-washed believers on this earth! In fact, a careful study of the New Testament will show that just the opposite is true. Those who attempt to live “godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution” (2 Tim.3:12) and history is replete with examples of their enslavement, torture and death at the hands of evil governments.
Consider the following passage of Scripture and see if the rights of “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” have been afforded the satanically-enslaved masses of humanity:
“And you [He
made alive], when you were dead (slain) by [your] trespasses and sins
[2] In which at one time you walked [habitually]. You were following the
course and fashion of this world [were under the sway of the tendency of this
present age], following the prince of the power of the air. [You were obedient
to and under the control of] the [demon] spirit that still constantly works in the sons of
disobedience [the careless, the rebellious, and the unbelieving, who go against
the purposes of God]. [3] Among these we as well as you once lived and
conducted ourselves in the passions of our flesh [our behavior governed by our
corrupt and sensual nature], obeying the impulses of the flesh and the thoughts
of the mind [our cravings dictated by our senses and our dark imaginings]. We
were then by nature children of [God’s] wrath and heirs of [His] indignation,
like the rest of mankind” Eph.2:1-3 (Amplified Bible, emphasis mine).
These
words were written by the Apostle Paul to the believers at
Therefore, to insist upon such rights in opposition to what the Scriptures actually teach is to assume an arrogant and rebellious attitude before a “thrice-Holy God.” (Rev. 4:8).
Then there is the matter of the “800 pound gorilla in the
room”—something that preachers continue to overlook when they “wave the flag”
and wax eloquent about the founding of our nation. Why do you suppose they
ignore the fact that there is not a single instance in the Bible where a
violent overthrow of authority by those being ruled was sanctioned by God?
The worn-out argument that Peter and John set a precedent for permissible
rebellion when they stood up to the Sanhedrin Council (Acts 14:19) is ridiculous and will not hold water. All
they did was refuse to obey the order that they cease preaching and teaching
the Gospel of Jesus Christ and their refusal was done in a respectful
manner—fully understanding that punishment was a definite possibility. Not once
did they advocate or make any attempt to change or overthrow the authority of
the Council. And you can search the New Testament until you turn blue without
finding anything that remotely hints the Apostles ever spoke out against the
ungodly
To support that premise, we have God’s message to King Saul
after he blatantly refused to obey:
“Samuel said, Has the Lord
as great a delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of
the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat
of rams. 23 For rebellion is as the
sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as
idolatry and teraphim (household good luck images). Because you have rejected
the word of the Lord, He also has rejected you from being king” 1 Samuel
15:22-23 (Amplified Bible, emphasis mine).
Furthermore in the New Testament we have guidance on the
matter that could not possibly be any clearer:
“Remind people to be
submissive to [their] magistrates and authorities, to be obedient, to be
prepared and willing to do any upright and honorable work”
Titus 3:1 (Amplified Bible, emphasis mine).
“Be submissive to every human institution and
authority for the sake of the Lord, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, 14 Or to governors as sent by him to
bring vengeance (punishment, justice) to those who do wrong and to encourage those
who do good service. 15 For it is God’s will and
intention that by doing right [your good and honest lives] should silence
(muzzle, gag) the ignorant charges and ill-informed criticisms of
foolish persons. 16 [Live] as
free people, [yet] without employing your freedom as a pretext for wickedness;
but [live at all times] as servants of God. 17 Show respect for all men [treat them
honorably]. Love the brotherhood (the Christian fraternity of which Christ is
the Head). Reverence God. Honor the emperor” 1 Peter 2:13-17 (Amplified Bible, emphasis mine).
So in light of these passages of Scripture, it is imperative
that we recognize the men who founded
This paragraph in the Declaration of Independence sets forth
their unscriptural argument:
“That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shown, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.” (All emphasis mine).
The premise upon which they based the “right” of rebellion
is found in a prior statement —one overlooked entirely too long by Christian
writers, and especially those knowledgeable about the occult nature of
Rosicrucianism/Freemasonry:
“When, in the course of human events, it becomes necessary
for one people to dissolve the political bonds which have connected them with
another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of
Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind
requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the
separation.”
The “Laws of Nature” are the so-called Noahide
Laws—“commandments” Kabalistic Jewish Rabbis hold to be binding upon the
Gentiles. And it is a topic about which

Then there is the matter of “Nature’s God.” Please note that
it does not say “The God of Nature,” thereby obliquely referring to the God of
the Bible. No, it is “Nature’s God”— Pan,
the horned and cloven hoofed half man, half goat god of occult lore depicting
Lucifer and to whom Masonic writers refer when they speak of “nature’s god!”

Also we must examine the term “Creator,” as it was used in the phrase “…endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights…” Once more we find an instance where Christians erroneously jump to the conclusion that it refers to the God of the Bible. From the occult point of view, it is claimed that Lucifer—not Jehovah—was man’s Creator because he cohabited with Eve and she gave birth to Cain. They hold Jehovah/Adonay to be the oppressive “evil god” and Lucifer to be the “good god” because through the lineage of Cain he is doing mankind a favor by revealing the “Gnosis,” or hidden knowledge of good and evil, which Jehovah intentionally withheld from Adam and Eve.
So all of us need to wake up to the realization that such terminology means different things to different people!
I have written on the subject of Romans 13 before and judging from the email generated by the articles, many professed Christians go to great lengths trying to justify what took place in the founding of our nation. And some of them appear to be on the verge of advocating rebellion again because they are incensed by the direction our government is taking. But in spite of the wonderful outcome of the American Revolution (the freedoms we now enjoy), we must not be deceived into thinking the doing of it was the result of God’s directive will. He obviously allowed it to happen (His permissive will), but mark my words—Revelation 13:2 indicates that at some point our nation is going to suffer a terrible judgment because of her rebellion.

once again and we are up to our eyeballs in another debacle—the “

Love of country is still very much a commendable reason for voluntary enlistment in the military—but the tragic fact is that it is actually naïve in light of the way our government is waging wars today. Unconventional “asymmetrical” warfare in which insurgents blend in with civilian populations is not winnable unless the non-combatants do everything they can to expose and expel the rebels from among themselves. And a no-win situation is absolutely certain when both the insurgents and civilians share a mutual hatred for the “liberators.”
Another ominous situation on the horizon is reflected in a
new group called “The Oath Keepers” that made the news recently. Comprised
largely of law enforcement personnel and military veterans, their stated aim is
to remain true to the oath they took to support and defend the Constitution of
the
"I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."
The commendable goal of this group is said to be a refusal
to bear arms against the American people if governmental tyranny continues to
rear its ugly head and revolt ensues. The recent financial disaster has
precipitated unprecedented governmental intrusion into all aspects of our lives
and the mood of the general public appears to be getting uglier by the minute.
Mortgage foreclosures and frantic searches for decent paying jobs are fueling a
sense of outrage that could explode into rebellion if an intentional triggering mechanism is
employed by our government. Over the past 233 years our minds and hearts
have been conditioned by ideals which, when the time is right, could easily be
used against us to create the planned
chaos necessary to bring in the New World Order of Antichrist. To put it
another way, under the right conditions rebellion by the people of
But beware! Christians must not take part in such acts of rebellion.
Please note that Romans 13:1-7 tells us all human authority existing
throughout the world is in place as a direct result of the sovereign will of
God. And no matter how terrible a particular regime may be—such as those of
Hitler, Chairman Mao, Stalin, etc—they have been appointed by God and will serve their purpose in His
plan of the ages. Sooner or later all
nations, including the
Nothing says we have to like the prospect and there is no scriptural injunction against using every legal and political means available to resist tyranny by our government, but armed revolt is not an option.
Our beloved country is standing on a treacherous precipice at this hour and God’s people need to wake up and pray mightily that He will see fit to have mercy on her. Time is rapidly running out……
