TITLE:
Subtitle: Why Should He?
Since the tragic events of 9-11 we have often heard both the song "God bless America" and the phrase itself repeated across the land. But how many have stopped to realize that those three words actually comprise a command and not a request? The God of the Christian Bible is under no obligation whatever to bless this nation and the freedom/prosperity we have enjoyed is due solely to His amazing grace! The blessings have been bestowed in spite of our national sin and not because of any goodness on our part.
Our present situation reminds me of the words spoken by the prophet Isaiah after he received a glimpse of God's glory:
"Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts" Isaiah 6:5 (KJV, emphasis mine)
America has been deluded into thinking she is a "Christian" nation because of ill-informed pastors and Bible teachers who continue to push that ridiculous notion! But the appalling fact is that "the land of the free and home of the brave" is esentially pagan "from sea to shining sea." And to make matters worse, our brand of hedonism and materialistic lifestyle is being promoted throughout the rest of the world--under the capitalistic guise of "making the world safe for democracy." My friends, this nation was founded as a representative republic--where elected statesmen are supposed to be sent to Washington to do what is good for the country and not fill their pockets at the trough. Democracy is rule by the mob--a concept formulated in ancient Greece and proved to be a dismal failure by the Roman empire and every other instance in which it has been tried. Its "Achilles heel" is sinful human nature--which, like water, will inevitably seek the lowest level and our formerly great nation is now in the throes of demonstrating it once again.
Yes, there was a time when Christian principles were at least given lip service and biblical morality was woven into the fabric of America, but those days are long gone. The restrictive element of "thou shalt not" has never been popular with mankind and our society is no different. Merely adopting the label of "Christian" and believing America is a nation of Christians does not make it so! As I have tried to point out in many different articles, genuine Christianity as it is defined in the Bible, involves a supernatural reception of the Holy Spirit of God by the individual believer through what what Jesus Christ Himself termed as being "born again"--literally born "from above" (The Gospel of John, chapter three). This supernatural birth defines genuine Christianity and its validity is demonstrated in the changed life and subsequent "walk" of the recipient. Momma and Daddy being Christians does not make junior one any more than living in a garage would make him a car. Going to Church every Sunday, paying the preacher, living by the Ten Commandments, doing the best you can, living by the Golden Rule, hoping that your good works outweigh your bad works on judgment day,.........are totally invalid reasons to claim the title of Christian! America a Christian nation? Get serious!
Do not be deceived--America is ripe for God's judgment and it will come. The precise time has not been revealed, but I believe that when it happens--the entire Western Hemisphere, comprised of North, Central, and South America, are likely to be consumed. Why do I say this? Consider the following passage taken from the Book of Daniel:
"And behold another beast, a second, like to a bear, and it raised up itself on one side, and it had three ribs in the mouth of it between the teeth of it: and they said thus unto it, Arise, devour much flesh" Daniel 7:5 (KJV, emphasis mine).
The Russian bear has been "playing 'possum'" for the past few years, but their weaponry is still aimed at us. Communism was created to be the antithesis of Capitalism in order to bring about the Fascistic synthesis we now see coming to fruition in China. And once that economic giant is totally viable, America the Beautiful will be in their way and expendable. Think about it.......the East is emphasized in the gnostic philosophy of Rosicrucianism/Freemasonry as being "light", while the West is "darkness." The sun rises in the East and it sets in the West. Israel is the focal point of all prophecy and when we look at how it is situated, we see that to the West is the Americas, to the East is China, to the North is Russia and to the South is Rhodesia and South Africa (the former domain of Illuminist Harry Rhodes and his diamond mines). The "four winds" (ie. the four points of the compass) of Daniel 7:2 "upon the great sea"--the Mediterranean--to my mind, clearly indicates these directions and nations. Prophecy teachers disagree on many of the specifics, but most of them seem to agree that America will be destroyed.
So in light of these things, upon what foundation are you building your future? If you think that things are going to continue to get better and better and we are going to live happily ever after, a reality check is in order. Both the economy and infrastructure of this nation is perilously close to collapse and its overwhelming technological superiority a rapidly fading memory. The emerging nations, such as China, are "eating our lunch" and making us pay for it. Something has to give and I think all of us should realize what it is going to be.
Our society is to the point of trusting in the "uncertain riches" of the following passage:
"Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy" 1 Tim. 6:17 (KJV, emphasis mine).
Wealth is a relative thing and totally uncertain--often changing with the shifting fortunes of the stock market--as many have learned recently. Retirement nest eggs evaporated overnight because of the greed of a few and thousands find themselves out in the street without a job--having to compete with each other for the few positions available. What seemed like such a rosy future evaporated into cold reality in a matter of hours. Multiply this by all 50 states and the picture is not pretty. Yet those still enjoying the American dream toil on, oblivious to the toll it is taking on their family for both parents to work, while the kids quite literally raise themselves. The insatiable desire for "things" is devouring people while national, corporate, and individual debt is totally out of control. Truly, Satan must be overjoyed as he views his handiwork! We are running on inertia--like a gut-shot deer stumbling through the woods--and when the blood runs out, we will drop in our tracks. Will you be mentally and spiritually prepared to deal with such adversity when it happens?
We should be placing our total confidence in God, trusting Him for our daily bread and protection from the unknowns of tomorrow. But to actually do this, we must know His Son as our personal Lord and Savior. The Father/child relationship gained through the new birth does not guarantee freedom from trouble, but it does guarantee that God will go with us through the trouble. His presence in my life enables me to walk by faith and leave the worries in His capable hands. Otherwise, I would be a basket case as I watch the dark clouds rapidly approaching.
What will it take to get America's attention? What calamity must take place before people wake up to reality? Sadly, I must confess that I do not believe the majority can see the end of their nose because they are too busy striving for material things--accumulating more and more, without ever reaching a point where they are satisfied. Some years ago, I read where a multi-millionaire industrialist (I cannot remember which one) was asked what it would take to satisfy him and he replied, "Just a little more." At that time the man had more disposable income than he could reasonably spend in two lifetimes, but making more of it had become an obsession. And while the average family today does not have that kind of buying power, they are working themselves into a frenzy--often going in over their eyeballs with credit card debt--trying to have it all! Others waste their hard earned money trying to get rich quick through state lotteries or gambling casinos--seemingly oblivious to the insane odds stacked against them. (I saw something recently--I think it was on a T-shirt--that went something like this: "The Lottery--a payoff to a fool funded by thousands of fools!") But when it is obvious that one's income cannot enable them to live the lifestyle of the rich and famous, many will resort to such tactics while chasing the impossible dream.
And this brings us to another very pertinent verse of Scripture:
"For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" Mark 8:36 (KJV)
Ask yourself if having all this world has to offer for a few years would be worth an eternity in hell? You see, this obsession with wealth and possessions is nothing new and the Bible has quite a lot to say about it. For example:
"But those who crave to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish (useless, godless) and hurtful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction and miserable perishing. [10] For the love of money is a root of all evils; it is through this craving that some have been led astray, and have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves through with many acute [mental] pangs" 1 Timothy 6:9-10, (Parallel Bible, KJV/Amplified Bible commentary, emphasis mine)
Folks, there is nothing intrinsically wrong with money. It is a handy commodity to have around, but our attitude toward it--especially as Christians--should be kept in proper perspective. A reasonable amount of initiative and ambition is healthy and God will bless us to whatever degree He chooses. But if we become dissatisfied with His blessings and allow ourselves to develop a love for money, we will commit the sin of ingratitude and incur His hand of chastening. So learn from the Apostle Paul as he says,
"Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content" [12] I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need" Philip. 4:11-12 (KJV, emphasis mine).
In other words, Paul "rolled with the flow" and was properly thankful to God regardless of what his circumstances were at any given time. And he emphasized this principle when he said:
"But godliness with contentment is great gain" 1 Tim. 6:6 (KJV, emphasis mine).
We desperately need to stop and examine our priorities. Material possessions are only temporary and we certainly cannot take them with us when we depart this life. As a nation, we are literally killing ourselves through the stress of trying "to be a winner." Millions are going to ridiculous lengths to see who winds up with the most toys--as if this was a legitimate reason for living! And the ever-increasing numbers of those who kill themselves rather than face reality should be a wake-up call for the rest of us. Truly, to lose one's soul in the pursuit of uncertain riches is beyond tragic. Yet, that is precisely what is happening all across this land today.
Some wise man has said that "to be forewarned is to be forearmed." Knowing that extreme circumstances are not only possible, but highly probable should stir us to take stock of our mental preparedness. Sooner or later some really bad stuff is going to come our way and those who survive are likely to be faced with a very unpleasant future. Persecution and death have dogged the steps of Christians down through the centuries and it is totally unrealistic to think that God will view us as being more special than the martyrs of the past. We do not enjoy talking about such a gloomy subject, but are convinced God wants His people to wake up to reality. It is apparent that many today think the rapture is going to be a "magic bullet" which will spare all of God's children from a world gone mad, but there is nothing in the Bible which says there will be no persecution and martyrdom leading up to it! All we are told is that "...those who are alive and remain...." will be caught up (1 Thess.4:15). It is entirely possible that only a remnant of believers will still be alive at that time. So do yourself a favor and allow for the possibility of a worst case senario. Pollyanna thinking can easily lead to a crisis of faith when things do not work out as nicely as envisioned. As the Boy Scout motto says, "Be prepared."
But please understand we are in no way advocating trying to take tangible steps to avoid whatever might come--and certainly no armed resistance against those who would try to destroy us. The only protection we have, or need, is found in the Person of Jesus Christ and we must face the future with total faith in Him. Just keep in mind what can happen, pray for grace to face it if it does, and that the Lord will be honored through it all.
