US forces in Iraq placed on raised alert for anniversary of Baath coup Thursday, day after US Central Command Gen. Abizaid became first American leader to term attacks against US troops guerilla war.

He said it was staged by Baathists, former Republican Guardsmen and “significant terrorist groups”

Wednesday, one US soldier was killed and six injured, the pro-US mayor of Haditha in W. Iraq was assassinated and a Strela anti-air missile was fired at and missed a US Hercules-130 transport coming in to land at Baghdad international airport.
