TITLE: IS AMERICA REALLY A CHRISTIAN NATION?

Subtitle: If Washington Cut Down The Cherry Tree And "Could Not Tell A Lie About It," Then Our Nation May Have Been Founded Upon Jesus Christ!

Popular myths die hard and tales involving George Washington persist in spite of academic efforts to lay them to rest. The following site, provided by the University of Virginia, gives us a factual and often unflattering look at the life of "The Father of our Country":

http://xroads.virginia.edu/~CAP/gw/gwmain.html

The facts are that after his death, people with good intentions engaged in historical revisionism. They portrayed him in grandiose moral and religious terms calculated to ensure a lasting legacy--one befitting a warrior and statesman who founded a great nation. And an Italian artist named Constantino Brumidi even went so far as to honor his memory by painting a heavenly scene in the dome of the Captial building entitled "The Apotheosis of Washington" (This painting is discussed in the University of Virginia link above). The dictionary definition of "Apotheosis" means exaltation to divine rank or stature: DEIFICATION!! George Washington may have been regenerated spiritually before he died, but he certainly was not God. Lies are lies and it is past time that God's people woke up to the fact that even if our first President was a genuine Christian, many of the other men involved in the rebellion against England were not--not as the term is defined by the Bible!

In our last article, entitled "The Ten Commandments Monument" (www.cuttingedge.org/articles/p209.htm), we touched on some of these points and, as usual, received numerous emails taking us to task for such blasphemy! How dare we say such things and call into question the authenticity of that which most of us were taught in school? Do we not know that such "facts" are sacrosanct and above reproach?

Quotes and written prayers fly thick and fast, offered as "proof" that certain men, such as Washington, were godly and their collective efforts--as Lincoln put it--"...brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal...." But  where Jesus Christ is concerned, words are totally meaningless if actions do not match  them. Can we not grasp the concept that pious rhetoric has been the stock and trade of politicians for centuries? What better way has there ever been to curry the favor of "the Christian vote" than to feign fellowship? Even in our jaded society today, it still helps to decide elections, as evidenced by the most recent one! And I am convinced that such rhetoric is at the very heart of the monument issue, now being pressed on a national scale. So we need to ask ourselves, "What will actually be accomplished if this battle is won?" If the monument should wind up being permanently placed in the foyer of the White House, will the cause of Christ be enhanced? Will unbelievers be any more likely to convert to Christianity because of a national monument acknowledging our God? And, as I mentioned in the earlier article, what would be our response if a monument to Islam, or Buddha, or Confucious, or....?..., were placed there?

But fellow Americans, when we get right down to basics the salvation status of any, or all, of the men who were involved in the founding of our country is totally irrevelant when we consider the question of it being Christian. Their collective belief, or lack of belief in God is beside the point. Did they, or did they not, establish a nation founded upon and dedicated to Jesus Christ? If they did, it was apparently done without mentioning His Name in any official document! Someone tried to counter my previous statement to this effect by offering a quote from a document in which the phrase "in the year of our Lord...." was used as part of the date of its writing--something done in most documents of that era. But "Lord" is a title and not the Name Jesus Christ, a Name that is above every name:

"Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come" Ephes. 1:21 (KJV).

"Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name" Philip. 2:9 (KJV).

Obviously, no individual or nation can rightly claim the label of  "Christian" without emphasizing and honoring Jesus the Christ! Countless references to "God," "Lord," "Savior," etc., etc., just won't cut it because they mean different things to different people. Even the term "christ" itself--without the Name of Jesus attached--is being used by New Agers to refer to their coming "savior." And of course we know from God's Word that individual will literally be Satan incarnate--the antichrist! So on this  point alone the "Christian nation" claim is shown to be invalid. But in case there is any doubt remaining, at least one official government document of George Washington's era  unequivocally denies it! In 1796, during his second term in office, a treaty of "peace and friendship" with the Barbary pirates was signed. And article #11 of that treaty states the following:

"ARTICLE 11.
As the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion,--as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion or tranquility of Musselmen,--and as the said States never have entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mehomitan nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries."

(The Barbary Treaties : Treaty of Peace and Friendship, Signed at Tripoli November 4, 1796, emphasis mine).

This treaty with Moslem (Mehomitan) pirates was ratified by at least a two-thirds majority of the Senate and shows beyond all doubt that our national government was--from its very inception--not considered to be Christian. And it seems obvious that in order for true religious freedom to be afforded to all its citizens, the official position of the government would have to be neutral. But as we have tried to point out in past articles, there has always been a more ominous aspect to our nation's position than mere neutrality on spiritual matters. Much circumstantial evidence exists to show that tenets of Rosicrucianism/Freemasonry and the ungodly occult gnostic philosophy behind them were incorporated into the very fabric of our republic.

To the best of my knowledge, there is not a single plaque or monument in our nation's capital officially honoring Jesus Christ, yet statues, paintings, and other works of art glorifying the gods and goddesses of ancient Greece and Rome are found in practically every building. There is even a statue called "Columbia" standing on the Capital dome, which was supposedly done as a composite of the Greek goddess Athena and an American Indian maiden! Paintings and statues of Minerva (the Roman name for Athena) abound in the corridors and alcoves of our nation's capital. Why Athena, you ask? As we have stressed in earlier articles, Francis Bacon--the supreme Rosicrucian "magister" of his day--idealized Athena and took her for his personal muse. And Bacon, contrary to much disinformation published on the subject, was the originator of Scottish Rite Freemasonry. He also was the driving force behind the formation of the Virginia Company and the first settlement on our shores called Jamestown--so named in honor of King James--a partner in the enterprise, along with Sir Walter Raleigh and Bacon. And the only statue of a Confederate soldier in Washington, D.C. is that of Albert Pike, which has nothing to do with his activities during the Civil War and everything to do with his being a national leader of Scottish Rite Freemasonry. Are we beginning to see a pattern here?

Cutting Edge and many other Christian (and even some not claiming to be Christian) web sites have amassed enough thoroughly documented evidence about Freemason involvement in the foundation of the United States and their uninterrupted influence up to the present, that any first year law student could sucessfully argue the case before an honest and unbiased jury. Yet most Christians, God bless 'em, insist upon ignoring the facts so they can cling tenaciously to carefully crafted patriotic myths. What is it going to take to wake them up to the realization we have not only been thoroughly deceived, but are being manipulated by those who continue to "push the right buttons"?

What will it take to make zealous brethren see that continued pressure to "take back America for Christ" through political means is not only futile, but is adding to the alienation of a steadily increasing non-Christian majority? Do they not understand that continuing to jump up and down in righteous indignation about violations of our constitutional rights and resorting to civil disobedience is a far cry from bending our knees in prayer before a holy God and begging Him to intervene on our behalf? What this nation desperately needs is for its Christian minority to experience heaven-sent, Holy Ghost revival (which only God can send)--not tremendous political victories such as the 18th Amendment to the Constitution. Without a doubt, the Prohibition Amendment was the greatest accomplishment to date by any political group spearheaded by Christian activists, but what did it actually accomplish in the long run? A scant 14 years later, it was repealed because the ungodly majority absolutely refused to quit drinking booze! Attempts at enforcing the law only drove them underground and when the dust finally settled, the per capita consumption of beverage alcohol skyrocketed! Make something "the forbidden fruit" and unregenerate men will take to it like a duck to water. Be not deceived--godly convictions cannot be forced upon society by victories at the ballot box. Sooner or later they will be overturned, with the net result being spiritual disaster. If any society is to be made better, the Holy Spirit will have to do it by changing the hearts of men.

One of the central tenets of Rosicrucianism and Freemasonry is the creation of a single religion, in which (they believe) true  brotherhood can finally be achieved by avoiding the sectarian strife inherent to multiple systems of belief. And to insure the eventual realization of that goal, their agent provocateurs continue to foment regional ethnic and/or religious conflicts which have already resulted in two world wars--with plans for one more to come! And just as sure as the sun will come up tomorrow morning, genuine Christianity is in their "crosshairs" as a menace to be neutralized.

Misguided zealots who over-react to constitutional issues regarding freedom of religion by resorting to displays of anger, civil disobedience, and intemperate speech (not to mention those who murder abortion providers, etc.) are playing right into the hands of those who are intentionally "pulling their chain." Nothing could please them more than to see that degree of response because of the inevitable bad taste it leaves in the mouths of unbelievers. And the alienation is being manipulated to form a backlash against Christianity along with a resultant desire among the masses for their "one size fits all" religion of gnosticism and brotherhood from sea to shining sea.

Think me crazy if you wish, but I believe the whole semi-official notion of America being a Christian nation was carefully cultivated and allowed to mature specifically for this hour. Remember that Francis Bacon's vision for America was that of a phoenix! My prayer is that God will see fit to deliver us from such evil.

If you have been born again and received Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, but have been very lukewarm in your spiritual walk with Him, you need to immediately ask Him for forgiveness and for renewal. He will instantly forgive you, and fill your heart with the joy of the Holy Spirit. Then, you need to begin a daily walk of prayer and personal Bible Study.

If you have never placed your trust in Jesus Christ as your Savior, but have come to sense His reality and the approaching End of the Age, and want to receive His FREE Gift of Eternal Life, you can do so now, in the privacy of your home. Once you truly believe in Him as Lord and Savior, you are spiritually Born Again, and are as assured of Heaven as if you were already there. Then, you can rest assured that the Kingdom of Antichrist will not touch you spiritually. If you would like to become Born Again, turn to our Salvation Page now.

We hope you have been blessed by this ministry, which seeks to educate and warn people, so that they can see the coming New World Order—Kingdom of Antichrist—in their daily news.
